Thanks for taking a moment to check out this page. I am a freelance writer who likes a good story. My bread and butter is copywriting, which simply means I help businesses tell their stories and build relationships with their customers. If that’s something you or your business could use help with, let’s talk.
Meanwhile, I’m trying to live a good story myself. That’s why I don’t stay in one place for very long. I started this site in September 2011 so I could have a place to tell some stories.
The Long Bio
I grew up in Kentucky and have since lived in four European countries and visited a bunch more.
I got into traveling in 2005 while studying abroad in the Netherlands. Before that, I had only left the USA once, and that was to go drinking legally (I was 20) in Canada. From Holland, I ended up traveling to the rest of the Benelux, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and probably some other places. I loved it — new people, new cultures, new foods, new beers.
But traveling was expensive (so I thought), and after school I moved to Chicago, where I worked in a bar and spent my first year in a real city. I met some awesome friends there and count my off-and-on four years in Chicago as some of the best times imaginable.
During that off-and-on phase, I also backpacked through Europe for a half year, earned a master’s degree from Sweden, met a girl from Latvia and settled in with her in Riga for a half year.
Over the course of two and a half years, we bounced back and forth between our continents while she finished her master’s degree. Our trans-continental relationship — and the logistical difficulty that involves — is what really pushed me down this locationless-living path.
In 2011, she was offered a sweet job in Europe. We agreed it was an opportunity she had to pursue, and that I would create a stream of income from my side through pure hustle and creativity.
